Biography
Azman Hashim is the former chairman of AmBank Group, Malaysia's sixth-largest lender by assets. He acquired it in 1982 as the Arab-Malaysian Development Bank.
His bank holding company AMMB Holdings is the listed flagship.
Azman retired in 2022, though he remains chairman emeritus.
Azman also has stakes in RCE Capital and Amcorp Properties, which his daughter Shalina is non-executive chairman.
Azman has been in the banking industry since 1960, when he joined Bank Negara Malaysia.
About
Azman wears many other hats: He is the president of the Malaysia South-South Association, Malaysia-Japan Economic Association and the Malaysian Prison Friends Club.
One of Azman's three daughters, Shazrina, is a local artist who is known as Mizz Nina.
Azman has climbed Mount Kinabalu - which stands between Myanmar and Papua New Guinea - twice. The second time was in November 2023 at the age of 84.
