Biography
Bernard Broermann is the founder of Asklepios Kliniken GmbH, one of the three largest operators of private hospitals in Germany.
His first hospital opened in 1984, and the group now employs more than 50,000 people and has 170 hospitals and medical clinics worldwide.
Asklepios holds a majority stake in mediClin AG, a German operator of hospitals and clinics.
In May 2020, the Bundeskartellamt cleared Asklepios's planned acquisition of of rival hospital group Rhoen-Klinikum AG, in which it already held a stake; today it holds 91.75% of the group.
Broermann also owns five luxury hotels in Germany and Switzerland.

Broermann, from a family of farmers, has M.B.A. degrees from Harvard University and INSEAD.
Before founding Asklepios, he practiced as an accountant and lawyer.
