Biography

C. Dean Metropoulos is best known for saving the iconic Twinkies and Hostess Brands.

Through his Metropoulos & Co, he's also turned around and sold Chef Boyardee, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Bumble Bee Tuna and others.

Metropoulos and private equity firm Apollo bought Hostess Brands in 2013 and later took it public.

Ten years later, J.M. Smucker Co. acquired Hostess Brands for $5.6 billion.

The Greek-born entrepreneur made his first American acquisition at the age of 32, when he acquired a cheese company in his wife's native Vermont.

In 2026, Metropoulos acquired a 5% stake in the NFL's New England Patriots.
