Biography
Erwin Franz Mueller owns an eponymous drugstore chain with some 880 stores across seven European countries and annual revenue of around $4.4 billion.
The business dates to 1953, when Mueller opened a hairdressing shop in his home in Ulm, Germany.
In recent years, working conditions at his drugstores have been the subject of scrutiny in media reports.
In August 2022, shortly before his 90th birthday, M?ller retook the helm after CEO G?nther Helm suddenly departed.
In 2017, he founded the Erwin-Mueller-Privatstiftung as a company foundation in Linz, Austria to deal with his eventual succession.
About
Mueller is believed to have pledged more $1 billion of real estate assets - including a house and a golf course in Mallorca - as collateral in a 2013 tax dispute.
He married his second wife and former secretary, Anita, in 2006. Around the same time, his son Reinhard left the company's management team.
