George Christ cofounded software company Altair Engineering with fellow billionaire James Scapa in 1985.

Christ retired before Altair went public in 2017 but remained the company's second largest individual shareholder until it was acquired by German tech giant Siemens in 2025.

Siemens paid nearly $10 billion in cash for Altair and Christ walked away with $1 billion before taxes.
