Gerald Frere is the son of the late Albert Frere, the billionaire industrialist who died in 2018 at age 92.

Albert Frere's business interests included Groupe Bruxelles Lambert (GBL bank), insurer Royale Belge, Petrofina and Tractebel before he began slowly selling some of his assets later in his career
