Biography
Giovanni Arvedi is the founder and owner of the Arvedi Group, a steelmaker based in the northern Italian city of Cremona.
Arvedi comes from a long line of metal workers: his ancestors owned a small copper mine in northern Italy in the 17th century.
He started two trading and manufacturing firms in 1963 and later opened a steel works in Cremona in 1970.
In January 2022, the Arvedi Group acquired an 85% stake in Italian steel mill AST from ThyssenKrupp for a reported price of roughly $700 million.
The AST acquisition brought the company's revenues to nearly $8 billion in 2022, making it one of Europe's largest steelmakers.
About
Arvedi also owns his hometown soccer team, Cremonese, which plays in Italy's top division Serie A as of the 2022-23 season.
In 1984, Arvedi was awarded the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro, one of Italy's highest civilian honors.
