Biography
Gregory Bentley is chairman of infrastructure engineering software developer Bentley Systems. He was CEO from 2000 to 2024.
He joined the company in 1991 after selling a financial trading company he co-founded with brother Barry for $50 million.
His younger brothers Barry and Keith founded the software company in 1984.
Bentley Systems develops and sells computer-aided design (CAD) software for architects and engineers working on public and industrial infrastructure.
The $1.5 billion (sales) company remains majority owned by the Bentley family.
About
Before starting their software ventures, the brothers sold Christmas trees to earn extra cash.
After the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded in 1986, NASA used Bentley Systems? software to create 3D models of the launch to help analyze what went wrong.
