Biography
Ignacio "Nacho" Torras runs Tricon Energy, one of the world's biggest distributors and traders of chemicals and plastics.
Torras, who is a dual Spanish and American citizen, was born in Barcelona to a family that owned paper mills and newspapers.
As a teen, he moved with his family to Brazil after they lost everything in the 1970s recession. When his father was diagnosed with ALS, Torras took over his small chemicals trading business.
After a seven years in the chemicals industry, including a four-year stint at Houston-based Holland Chemical, he and three other traders launched Tricon in 1996.
Torras tried bringing in a CEO to run the day-to-day in 2016 so he could focus on trading. But the new guy told him he was too much of a control freak, so Torras took the job back: "After a year I realized I wasn't such a bad CEO."
