Biography

Ivan Savvidis, a Greek-Russian businessman, is the founder of Agrocom Group, whose assets included Russian tobacco firm Donskoy Tabak.

Savvidis sold Donskoy Tabak for $1.6 billion to Japan Tabacco in March 2018.

Seen as a Putin ally, Savvidis is a former member of the Russian parliament.

Through his Greek company Dimera, he owns a stake in soccer team FC PAOK in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he also operates a port.

He got his start as a worker at the Don State Tobacco Factory (now Donskoy Tabak) and was elected general director in 1993.

In 2022 Savvidis bid for the port of Alexandroupoli in northeastern Greece but in the long run the Greek government decided not to sell it.
