Biography
JB Straubel is the founder and CEO of Redwood Materials and the former chief technology officer of Tesla.
A Stanford-educated engineer, Straubel was working on battery-powered planes in 2003 when he met Elon Musk at a campus lecture.
He joined Tesla as employee No. 5 in 2004, and drove the development of its battery packs and electric motors as CTO. He left the C-suite in 2019 but remains on the board.
He now runs Redwood Materials, a Nevada-based electric vehicle battery recycling startup he founded in 2017.
