Biography
Jose Maria Aristrain is the former owner of steelmaker Arcelor, which was acquired by Mittal Steel in 2006 for nearly $34 billion in cash and stock.
He is now believed to own a 2% stake of ArcelorMittal, among the world's largest steel companies.
He owns about 11% of Spain's Tubacex, the second-largest global manufacturer of seamless stainless steel tubes.
Aristrain inherited the business conglomerate when he was 24 years old, after his father, also named Jose Maria Aristrain, died in 1986 in a helicopter crash on the Cote d'Azur.
Aristrain was accused of tax evasion in Spain and faced 40 years in prison, but he maintained his innocence and the Court of Madrid acquitted him in January 2022.
About
