Biography
Kirill Shamalov is the son of Rossiya Bank shareholder Nikolai Shamalov, a longtime friend of Putin.
Shamalov studied law at Saint Petersburg State University and became vice president of Russian petrochemical company Sibur at age 26.
In 2014, he bought a stake in Sibur from billionaire Gennady Timchenko, a longtime friend of Putin's who was the target of U.S. sanctions.
He later sold most of his stake but still held onto roughly 4% of Sibur.
About
Kirill Shamalov was married to President Vladimir Putin's daughter, academic Katerina Tikhonova, according to sources.
Their marriage was dissolved sometime in 2016 or 2017, which is around when Shamalov sold a 17% stake in Sibur.
