Biography
Lee Joong-keun is credited with introducing rental housing in South Korea and is the founder of Booyoung Group, a property and construction giant.
In 2018, he was convicted of embezzlement, tax evasion and creating a slush fund, but was released on bail due to health problems.
In 2020, an appeals court sentenced him to two and a half years in prison. He was released on parole in 2021 and was granted a presidential pardon in 2023.
In 2004, he was sentenced to three years in jail for embezzling company funds, but his sentence was suspended for five years. He was granted a presidential pardon in 2008.
About
In 1979, he filed for bankruptcy and put Booyoung's shares in his relatives' names in order to do deals.
A generous benefactor, he donates to families of disaster victims and grants scholarships and school supplies to support education in Southeast Asia.
