Biography
Luis Riu is co-CEO of Riu Hotels & Resorts, which he owns with his sister Carmen Guell, also a billionaire.
The group, which operates 98 hotels in 21 countries, saw more than $4.5 billion in revenue and $150 million in net profit in 2024.
Riu oversees the company's operations and expansion, both for its urban hotels and its Caribbean resort stronghold.
He is a third-generation family member of the Riu hospitality empire, which he joined in the 1980s; he has since led its push into city hotels and all-inclusive luxury resorts.
Riu also invests in new-build hotel projects in Mexico, the U.S., and Cape Verde.
About
Riu is said to personally scout and approve every international resort location before its construction.
He was instrumental in the group's entry into New York City's Times Square hotel market in 2010.
