Biography
Mikhail Shelkov is the former head of the investment division of state-owned Rostec, which controlled military contractors in Russia.
Shelkov's former boss Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec, is a member of Putin's inner circle, befriending Russia's president in Germany in the 1980s.
From 2012 to 2014, Shelkov and partners bought a controlling stake in VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation from Rostec and Gazprombank.
VSMPO-AVISMA is the world's largest titanium producer for the aerospace industry, which once counted Boeing, Airbus and Rolls-Royce as customers; In 2022 they ceased sourcing from the company.
In 2022 he bought aluminum factory in the Samara region from Arconic, a former division of Alcoa, stopped operations in Russia, for $230m.
