Biography

Mustafa Latif Topbas is CEO and cofounder of BIM, Turkey's largest chain of discount stores. He owns about 15% of its shares.

After BIM went public in 2005, Topbas owned around 26%.

Founded in 1995, BIM has more than 12,000 locations across Turkey, Morocco and Egypt.

The company, with annual revenues exceeding $5 billion, offers a popular mobile telecom service under the brand name Bimcell.

About

Topbas, who doesn't give interviews, has a longstanding friendship with Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and his family.

His daughter Fatma is married to Ali Ulker, nephew of food billionaire Murat Ulker. (The families also have business ties through their companies.)
