Biography
Randal Kirk, a former practicing attorney, is executive chairman of investment firm Third Security. Though the firm liquidated its life sciences-focused VC funds in 2020, it continues to manage Kirk's family money.
In 2020, he stepped down as CEO of biotech firm Precigen, but was appointed executive chairman.
He achieved his first entrepreneurial success with an injectable drug and vaccine distributor, which he eventually sold for $145 million.
His investments have made waves for innovative products, like apples that never brown and a genetically modified species of salmon.
Kirk sold greeting cards door-to-door when he was 9 years old, and claims he had an 85% close rate.

Kirk's father was a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
Kirk previously lived on a farm in Virginia, where he was an avid falconer.
