Biography
Rodney Sacks is chairman of energy drink maker Monster Beverage Corporation. He retired as co-CEO in June 2025.
Sacks and Monster's co-CEO Hilton Schlosberg, are native South Africans. They bought the drink company Hansen Natural in 1992.
Hansen Natural launched the Monster energy drink brand in 2002, and the company changed its name to Monster Beverage in 2012.
In 2015, Coca-Cola bought a 16.7% stake in Monster Beverage for $2.15 billion in cash and opened its global distribution network to Monster.
Coca-Cola and Monster went into arbitration in 2018 after Coca-Cola decided to develop two energy drinks of its own. Coca-Cola ultimately won.
About
Before buying what became Monster, Sacks was a senior partner at Werksmans, one of the largest law firms in South Africa.
Sacks studied law at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa; he later became a U.S. citizen and lives in southern California.
