Biography

Ruslan Rahimkulov and his older brother, Timur, became billionaires after inheriting the fortune from their father, Megdet, who led the Hungarian office of Russian gas giant Gazprom in the early 1990s.

Megdet Rahimkulov became CEO and co-owner of a joint venture between Gazprom and Hungary's oil and gas concern MOL in the mid 1990s.

The elder Rahimkulov also headed AEB, a Hungarian bank that Gazprom bought to process payments from its local customers that he later bought from Gazprom.

At the same time, he started began buying shares of MOL and OTP, Hungary's largest bank.

The brothers, both of whom live in Hungary, inherited the wealth in 2020 and began diversifying into other assets, including real estate.
