Biography
Sara Blakely is the founder and part owner of shapewear brand Spanx, which sells undergarments, leggings and apparel.
In late 2021, Blackstone bought a majority stake in Spanx in a deal that valued the company at $1.2 billion.
In August 2024, Blakely launched Sneex, a line of high-heeled sneakers priced at $395 and up that she designed to be comfortable.
A onetime door-to-door fax machine salesperson, Blakely first created Spanx using pantyhose to wear under white slacks.
While Spanx is a celebrity favorite, Blakely is becoming a celebrity herself. She was a guest judge on 'Shark Tank' and had a cameo in 'Billions.'
About
Blakely's husband Jessie Itzler is the founder of private jet membership company Marquis Jets, which was acquired by NetJets in 2010 for an undisclosed sum.
Blakely owns a minority stake in the Atlanta Hawks, her local NBA team.
