Biography
Tatyana Bakalchuk, a former English teacher and mother of seven, started e-commerce retailer Wildberries in 2004.
She founded the business at age 28 in her Moscow apartment while on maternity leave.
Her husband, Vladislav, an IT technician, soon joined her.
In the early years, she resold clothes from German retailer Otto.
Wildberries, which processes roughly seven million order a day, said total orders reached 1.5 billion in 2022.
About
Bakalchuk is the richest woman in Russia and one of only two woman billionaires from the nation.
In January 2024 a huge fire burned down Wildberries' warehouse in St. Petersburg, which houses about 10% of goods.
