Biography
Yoshiko Shinohara became Japan's first self-made female billionaire in early 2017.
She founded Temp Holdings, a temporary staffing company, in 1973 after a stint as a secretary.
Shinohara, who owns a minority stake in the firm, retired from her longtime position as chairman in April 2016 but remains chairman emeritus.
The company, now Persol Holdings, had $7.6 billion in revenue in the fiscal year ended in March 2022.

Shinohara founded the company in her Tokyo apartment.
Her foundation endows scholarships to help students who are training to become nurses, daycare staff and social workers.
