Biography
Yuri Gushchin gets the bulk of his fortune from United Confectioners, the biggest candy company in Russia.
During the Soviet era, Gushchin was an underground producer of consumer goods, particularly candy.
During Perestroika he became one of the first businessmen to legalize those operations.
After the 1998 Russian financial crisis, he bought a controlling stake in Moscow's biggest confectionary factories and created United Confectioners.
Gushchin leases out buildings near the Kremlin including Red October that used to belong to the candy company.

He lives in Seychelles where he owns a luxury hotel called Savoy Resort and Spa. He also owns the Savoy Hotel in Moscow.
